Cancer patients from the Social Security Institute, their family and friends, protested this morning against the lack of medicines and supplies for cancer treatment.
The demonstration took place in front of the IPS Central Hospital, and one of the patients, Lidio Alcaraz, said on 780 AM that “the lack experienced in the pension system is unbearable. Many find it necessary to spend an average of 5 million guaraníes to undergo chemotherapy. However, others who come from the interior of the country do not have the resources and must return home without undergoing treatment.”
“This disease eats away at you if you don’t do your chemo,” he added.
The wife of another patient stated that “in my husband’s case, he had five medications, and since the chemo was done, there was always no one, until it was finished.”
From the pensions they are seeking to address the terrible financial situation of the institution, inherited by the administration of the Government of Mario Abdo Benítez. The current Government seeks to settle the million-dollar debt with suppliers and restore the provision of supplies and drugs.
