The world’s oldest chicken dies at 21 on Christmas Day

A Michigan chicken named “Peanut,” which held the Guinness World Record for the oldest specimen on the planet, died on December 25 when she was 21 years old.

Its owner announced it in a long publication on her pet blog.

“I am heartbroken to share the news that my Peanut passed away on Christmas morning,” Marsi Parker Darwin wrote in her post.

The animal died in its sleep, in its owner’s arms, the New York Post reports.

Mrs Darwin, a retired librarian, raised her hen from birth to the crack of an egg until her death.

“I have so many years of memories with her and it’s something that makes me happy,” he says.

The animal benefited from an active lifestyle that included plenty of physical activity and a diet that included yogurt with vitamin D as well as fruits and vegetables.

Peanut received the title of world’s oldest chicken in January 2020, at the age of 20.

Since then the owner has dedicated much of her time to telling the story of her animal, especially through media interviews.
