A housewife named Sumaiya Akhter (25) committed suicide by twisting her veil around her neck while keeping her expatriate husband on a video call in Chandina, Comilla.
The incident took place on Saturday (March 2) in Tetuia village of Mohichail Union of the upazila. Sumaiya Akter is the daughter of Babul Mia, a resident of that village and wife of Mizanur Rahman, a Malaysian resident of Lona village of Barura upazila.
After investigation, it is known that Sumaiya got married to Mizanur, a resident of Malaysia, five months ago. After marriage, there were arguments between husband and wife about various family matters. After that, when Mizanur went abroad, Sumaiya went to his father’s house. At around 10 o’clock on Saturday morning, while talking to her expatriate husband on a video call, she committed suicide by twisting her veil against the ceiling of the house and hanging herself with a noose.
At one point the family broke the door and entered the house and found Sumaiya hanging. Later, when the police was informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina police station Ahmed Sanjur Morshed said that the police recovered the body after receiving information. The mother of the woman killed in this incident filed a wrongful death case at Chandina police station.
