The way out of the crisis is the way out of the dictatorship’

MADRID, Spain.- On the evening of this Sunday, when hundreds of Cubans took to the streets of Santiago de Cuba in a peaceful protest against the lack of food and electricity, the activist and promoter of Cuba Decide, Rosa María Payá, asked to the military of the regime “not to raise their weapons against the people!”

From publications on X (formerly Twitter), the opponent recalled that no one elected those who govern on the Island.

“The people are clear: The way out of the crisis is the way out of the dictatorship,” said the opponent, when Cubans chanted “Current and food” in the streets and demanded solutions from the government.

In response to a post by dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel, who blamed the “enemies of the Revolution” for the protests, Payá wrote: “You are destabilizers, you @DiazCanelB and your bosses the Castros. The people want freedom, you represent hunger and repression. We Cubans are ready for change and we are not going to stop. Leave now and let Cuba decide its destiny in peace.”

This Sunday’s protests, which began in the capital of Santiago de Cuba, spread shortly after to other cities such as Bayamo, Granma, Santa Marta and El Cobre.

In addition to “Current and food,” the crowd chanted “Nobody elected them,” referring to the leadership of the country.

In El Cobre, as in the capital of Santiago de Cuba, leaders of the Cuban Communist Party tried to appease the people from a rooftop. But in the face of this attempt to calm the situation, with the harangue that “there are problems with fuel,” the protesters shouted “That’s a lie!”, “Patria y Vida!”, “There is no power!”
