The value given to Azerbaijan drove the Armenians crazy: they were also jealous of that – 2024-07-19 06:57:10

While Armenian and Georgian wines were banned in Ukraine, this did not apply to Azerbaijani wines. This made the Armenians mad. As every time, the Armenians were happy this time as well.

Publika.az In an interview with “Sputnik Armenia”, the chairman of the National Wine Center of Armenia, Avag Harutyunyan, said in response to the ban decision that “Ukrvinprom” association, which unites a number of wineries in this country, applied to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and ordered 17 Georgian and Armenian wines. and applied to impose an embargo on the brandy producer.

It is proposed to ban these companies from selling in Ukraine for 10 years, as well as freeze assets and rights to trademarks.

As the head of the industry association that protects the interests of Armenian winemakers, he will soon contact Ukrvinprom for discussions.

“In general, both before the conflict started and now, Georgian and Azerbaijani wine was much more widely represented in Ukraine than Armenian wine. In addition, Georgian, Azerbaijani and Turkish businessmen bought a number of wineries in Ukraine,” Arutyunyan said.

As for Armenia, until 2022, the share of Ukraine in the total export of Armenian wine and cognac did not exceed 10%. After the start of the conflict, this market was practically lost, but then sales there began to recover. In addition, the expert noted that in recent months, Armenian insurance companies, together with foreign insurers, have prepared proposals for insuring the supply of goods to Ukraine.

“For a while, international companies refused to insure such cargoes. But the negotiations did not last long, and as far as I know, the issue is almost resolved, which should help the business. So, the news we heard today was not very good,” – Harutyunyan said.

Let us add that the list submitted by “Ukrvinprom” to SBU from Armenia includes almost all major cognac producers: “Iravan brand” factory, “Proshyan brand” factory, MAP, “Astafyan Holding”, “Ararat brand” factory.

The list also includes “Avshar” Winery (which produces wine and vodka) and “Vedi Alko”. From Georgia, the list included the largest domestic producer of cognac (“Sarajishvili”), as well as several wineries (“Askaneli Brothers”, “House of Georgian Wine” and a number of others).

It should be noted that according to the customs statistics of Armenia, in the first half of 2023, the export of cognac from Armenia to Ukraine decreased from $5.36 to $3.11 million, while the export of fruit wines decreased. From 290,000 dollars to 43,000 dollars, and grape wines fell to almost zero (from 281,000 dollars to 7,200 dollars).
