US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed that Washington and Kiev will sign a bilateral security agreement today (June 13) when US President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky meet on the sidelines of the conference. G7 summit in Italy.

He noted that the US agreement will include a commitment to cooperate on future funding for Ukraine but will not commit to using US forces on the ground.
According to him, the security agreement aims to reaffirm US support for Ukraine and includes provisions that could help Ukraine develop its military forces.
Mr. Sullivan affirmed: “By signing this, we will also send Russia a signal of our determination. If Russian President Vladimir Putin thinks he can prolong this war longer than the alliance supporting Ukraine, he was wrong.”
To date, 15 countries have signed bilateral security agreements with Ukraine, which will strengthen Ukraine’s “deterrent defense capabilities,” he added.
