The US secretly approves the delivery of fighter jets, bombs and war financing to Israel

MADRID (EUROPA PRESS).– In recent days, the administration of US President Joe Biden has authorized a new military aid package for Israel secretly and despite Washington’s public reservations regarding the intention of the Israeli Armed Forces to attack the Rafah region, at the southern end of the Gaza Strip.

The aid package includes more than 1,800 900-kilogram MK84 bombs and 500 225-kilogram MK82 bombs, according to sources from the Department of Defense and the State Department cited by The Washington Post, which highlights that the package is covered by certain previously approved aid, so it has not been necessary to request authorization from Congress.

This package is added to the one approved last week for a value of two thousand 500 million dollars that included the delivery of engines and 25 F-35A fighters in accordance with a proposal that Congress approved in 2008, so neither no new authorization was necessary.

The MK84 bombs have been directly linked to some of the most serious incidents of civilian casualties of the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip.

In fact, these types of bombs, which can destroy an entire building and leave craters more than 12 meters in diameter and depth, are never used by Western armies in densely populated areas due to the high risk of civilian casualties. However, Israel has used them profusely in the Gaza Strip and as a result more than 100 people died on October 31 in a bombardment on the Jabalia refugee camp, according to the UN estimate.

A State Department official has indicated that it is based on “the fulfillment of an authorization of a notification to Congress that may result in dozens of foreign military sales in the decades that it is in force.”

At least 32,705 people have died and 75,190 have been injured in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli Army’s attacks on the Palestinian enclave since October 7, 2023. The offensive is in response to attacks by Hamas on October 7, which left 1,200 dead.
