The US junior national team triumphs in the world hockey championship

In the final match, the Americans beat Sweden, the host country of the championship, with a score of 6:2 (1:0, 2:2, 3:0).

The first goal came three minutes before the end of the first period when Gabe Perrault put the puck in the net during a holding penalty after a great pass from Will Smith. In the third minute of the second period, after patient play by the Swedes, Otto Stenberg passed the puck between the legs of the opposing goalkeeper Trey Augustain and scored the score 1:1.

In the middle of the period, Isaac Howard skated alone against Hugo Havelid on the counterattack and returned the lead to the Americans, but in the 35th minute he shot from a sharp angle, the puck went into the goalkeeper’s net – 3 :1. Five seconds before the break, Jūnatans Lekerimaki scored the lead, the Swede making it 2:3 with a strong shot.

The U.S. Hockey Team regained the two-goal lead in the 79th second of the third period when Zēvs Buiums exited after winning the shot. With less than four minutes remaining in regulation time, Ryan Leonard protected the puck with a tenacious fight and made it 5-2 for the Americans.

Rutger McGroarty added a point to the victory for the US national team, who put the puck into an empty net 38 seconds later.

US hockey players have already won the world junior championship in 2021, before that they won titles in 2017, 2013, 2010 and 2004.

In the bronze medal match, the Czech Under-20 men’s hockey team scored four goals in 50 seconds in the penultimate minute of regulation time and defeated Finland 8:5 (1:2, 2:3, 5:0).

The Latvian Under-20 men’s hockey team concluded the world junior championship on Tuesday, recognizing the superiority of US hockey players by 2:7 in the quarterfinals.

This year, players born in 2004 and younger will take part in the world championship.
