According to US media, US President Joe Biden’s administration temporarily stopped shipping a batch of ammunition to Israel last week.
This is the first time the US has stopped transferring weapons to Israel since the conflict between the country’s military and the Islamic Movement Hamas broke out on October 7, 2023.
Sources familiar with the matter said the above shipment is not related to Israeli activities in Rafah and does not affect other shipments.
When asked about the suspended shipment, a spokesman for the US National Security Council emphasized Washington’s continued security support for Israel. Accordingly, the US has provided billions of dollars worth of security assistance to Israel since the escalation of the Hamas-Israel conflict and added the largest emergency aid ever to Israel.
To date, US officials still affirm that there is no change in policy towards Israel.
Last month, President Joe Biden signed a foreign aid bill, including $26 billion for the situation in the Gaza Strip, including $15 billion in military aid to Israel, and $9 billion in humanitarian aid for the people. Gaza population and 2.4 billion USD for US military operations in the region.
However, US officials are still concerned that Israel could conduct a military operation in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians are taking refuge.
The United States is participating in a series of negotiations related to a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Over the weekend, Israel and Hamas still blamed each other for extremist views that stalled ceasefire talks, although the latest round of negotiations in Cairo (Egypt) brought some misleading signals. mandarin.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army on May 6 called on Palestinians in the eastern city of Rafah to move to a nearby “humanitarian area”. This appears to be the start of a major evacuation before the Israeli army launches a ground offensive on the southern city of Gaza.
The Israeli military statement said it would use posters, text messages, telephone calls and media announcements to ask Palestinians to gradually evacuate designated areas./.
