ALONG WITH THAT OF THESSALIA AND PRINCETON
Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation of the University of Ioannina with Princeton University and the University of Thessaly, the PhD program in Archeology PITHOS was organized at the University of Ioannina, from 20-25 May 2024. The program is part of the axis of the international academic presence of the University, with a responsible Vice-rector Professor Mr. Xenophon Bitsikas.
The doctoral seminar, which constitutes an innovative high-level academic activity, was organized by professors Andreas Vlachopoulos (University of Ioannina) and Samuel Holzman (Princeton University). On the part of the University of Ioannina, a three-member group of doctoral students in Classical Archeology participated (Mary Giamalidis, Maria Lazopoulou, Artemis Maniaki), with thesis supervisors Professors Alexandra Alexandridou and Cleopatra Kathariou.
The participants attended a series of on-site courses and lectures by Dr. Constantinos Zachos and Dr. Anthi Angeli in Nikopoli and in Bouthroto by Dr. Dhimitër Çondi. Visits were made to the University Excavation of Douroutis, Dodoni, the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina and the Museum of Silversmithing, as well as tours of settlements and landscapes of Zagori.
The Rector Professor Anna Batistatou addressed a greeting during the second day of the work of the program, expressing the belief that the PITHOS program constitutes a major action of internationalization and extroversion of the University of Ioannina.
