USA reinforced its naval and air forces in the Middle East to help Israel to defend against any attack Iran or the Lebanese organization Hezbollahbefore the resumption of ceasefire talks in Gaza this week.

The move bolsters Israeli defenses and may deter Iran and Hezbollah from retaliating for the killings of militants in Beirut and Tehran nearly two weeks ago.

Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani reiterated the country’s determination to punish Israel for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Washington is keen to avoid an escalation three months before elections. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for Haniyeh’s death.

The US, Qatar and Egypt called for a new round of talks on August 15 for a ceasefire in Gaza. Talks between Israel and Hamas have long been deadlocked after more than 10 months of war. Hamas opposes the proposal and says the talks should focus on implementing previous plans.
