The United States recommended that its citizens do not travel for any reason to Venezuela

The United States government issued an alert on Tuesday that urges its citizens not to travel under any reason to Venezuela and to immediately abandon that country due to the high risk of arbitrary arrests.

In a statement, the State Department confirmed that it maintains the travel alert to Venezuela at level 4, the highest, due to “serious risks, such as unfair detention, torture during detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary police practices, violent crimes, civil disturbances and deficiencies in medical care”.

According to the official note, Venezuela is the country with the largest number of American citizens detained unfairly.

“American citizens in Venezuela face a significant and growing risk of unfair detention,” said the State Department.

Donald Trump’s government recalled that the United States does not have an embassy or consulates in Venezuela, so he cannot offer consular assistance to its citizens within the country.

In addition, he denounced that the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro does not inform the US government when one of its citizens is arrested.

For all these reasons, the State Department recommends not traveling to Venezuela “for any reason” and asks US citizens or legal residents in the US to find themselves there to leave the country immediately.

“Double nationality, a Venezuelan visa, having previously traveled to Venezuela or performing a job in that country does not offer any protection to US citizens,” the statement warned.
