The United Kingdom fires its ambassador to the US for his ties to Epstein

British ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, was fired by the country’s prime minister, Keir Starmer, following revelations about his relationship with sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, the BBC reported on Thursday.

“In light of additional information in emails written by Peter Mandelson, the Prime Minister has asked the Foreign Secretary to remove him as ambassador,” reads a statement from the British diplomatic mission in Washington, cited by the media.

“The emails show that the depth and scope of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from what was known at the time of his appointment,” the embassy added.

“In particular, Peter Mandelson’s suggestion that Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction was unjust and should be challenged constitutes new information. In light of this, and mindful of the victims of Epstein’s crimes, his ambassadorship has been removed with immediate effect,” he concluded.

“I can’t rewrite history”

Previously, Peter Mandelson admitted “very embarrassing” details of his relationship with the financier. This was said after the publication made this Monday by a US Congressional committee of a 238-page book that was given to Jeffrey Epstein by his main friends on the occasion of his 50th birthday celebration. The documents showed that the now former British ambassador to the United States defined the criminal as his “best friend.”

The book also includes photos of Mandelson during a visit, around 2002, to Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean, Little St. James, which one of the sex slaves called “orgy island.”

The mentions of the British ambassador are made over 10 pages, in which he also describes Epstein as a “mysterious” man and describes him as “intelligent and insightful.”

Leaked emails also revealed that Mandelson had advised Epstein on how to respond when he faced criminal charges for soliciting a minor in 2008.

«I can’t rewrite history. “What I can do is express my deep solidarity with those who have been trafficked by him and, secondly, I can accept, yes, I can accept that I have continued my association with him for too long,” lamented the diplomat. With RT
