The United Nations International Court of Justice rejected Nicaragua’s request for interim measures against Germany over military aid to Israel. This is reported by “RIA Novosti”, referring to the statement of the president of the court, Nawaf Salam.
The UN International Court of Justice held hearings on April 8-9 in Nicaragua’s case against Germany for alleged violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide against the Gaza Strip. Nicaragua’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Carlos Arguello Gomez, called on the court to oblige Germany to stop military aid to Israel, which may be used in violation of the Genocide Convention and international humanitarian law, as well as to restore the support and funding of the UN Middle East Agency for the organization of aid and work for Palestinian refugees.
On March 1, Nicaragua filed a lawsuit against Germany at the International Court of Justice of the United Nations, because the latter stopped the support of the United Nations Middle East Agency for the organization of aid and work for Palestinian refugees. According to the Nicaraguan government, Germany provides financial, political and military aid to Israel, knowing that it will be used in violation of international law.
It was noted in the court that the lawsuit was initiated in connection with alleged violations of Germany’s obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
