Minister Mucho expressed his conviction that the development of the Tía María project will not generate a social conflict in Arequipa

He Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Muchonoted that the Tia Maria mining project will bring numerous benefits to the Tambo Valley, in the Arequipa regionand the country in general. Since the beginning of its construction, approximately 9,000 jobs will be generated, boosting the local economy and directly benefiting the population.

“The Tía María project will be important for Islay, Arequipa and Peru. It will generate employment, economic growth and will trigger more projects to relaunch the national economy. I tell the population that our objective is not only to carry out a mining project, but to achieve the comprehensive development of the Tambo Valley.”Mucho noted.

The minister urged “not to frustrate opportunities” so that young professionals can work on large projects, which will also reposition Peru as a producer of copper and other minerals vital to the energy transition.

He added that there are an average of 300 mines operating in Peru and that there are currently 51 mining construction projects pending, with an approximate investment of 60 billion dollars. These projects, developed under strict environmental standards of modern mining, will generate significant benefits for the development of the regions of Peru.

“Let us not be afraid of progress and development. In Peru there are huge gaps in access to basic services, and the main ally to overcome this situation is mining, because it is the main driver of economic development.”he stressed.
