The Israeli army said it killed dozens of Palestinian fighters and arrested more than 200 people in a large-scale operation yesterday in the largest hospital complex in the Gaza Strip – the Ash Shifa hospital, France Press reported.
Hundreds of civilians were forced to flee the area.
“We eliminated more than 20 terrorists in the hospital complex” and “over 20 in the area around the hospital,” Israeli army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said. He added that “more than 200 suspected terrorists” had been detained.
The Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry reported “dozens killed and wounded”, most of them civilians, in the Israeli military operation at Ash Shifa hospital, but did not give exact numbers.
Meanwhile, Washington confirmed the death in the operation of the deputy head of the military wing of “Hamas” Marwan Issa, BTA reported.
He is the highest-ranking representative of the Palestinian Islamist movement killed by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war nearly half a year ago.
Issa was killed in an Israeli military operation last week.
