The ten nuns of the Catholic Church are excommunicated

The ten Spanish Poor Clare nuns who declared that they had “voluntarily separated” from the Catholic Church and placed themselves under the tutelage of a false bishop not recognized by the Church were excommunicated by the archbishop of Burgos, Mario Iceta, who was appointed pontifical commissioner for this matter. .

In a statement sent to the media this Saturday, the Archbishopric of Burgos, diocese to which the Belorado monastery belongs, in northern Spain and where the nuns are, reported that Iceta has communicated the decree of excommunication and the ipso facto expulsion from consecrated life to each and every one of the ten sisters who incurred schism.

Yesterday, Friday, the nuns had sent a burofax to the archbishopric in which they refused to appear before the Ecclesiastical Tribula, as they had been asked, by not recognizing their authority, and communicated their “unanimous and irreversible position” of abandoning the Catholic Church, at the same time which assured that any canonical sanction such as excommunication will be null.

On May 13, these ten nuns announced, with a manifesto and a public letter, their departure from the Catholic Church to place themselves under the tutelage of the Pious Union Sancti Pauli Apostoli, founded by the false bishop Pablo de Rojas, excommunicated in 2009.

The Archbishopric has indicated that, despite the excommunication of the ten nuns, “there continues to exist a monastic community formed by the sisters who have not incurred excommunication, as they have not supported the schism”; These are the five older sisters and three others who, although they are not in the monastery at the moment, belong to the community.

The excommunication of the ten nuns means that they must leave the monastery of Belorado, although the legal services of the Archbishopric, in a meeting next Monday, will analyze the steps to take in the face of the new situation.

They will also study the documentation sent by the lawyers of the former nuns, who contacted Mario Iceta this Friday, also through a burofax, to inform him that the Poor Clares had appointed a negotiating commission to negotiate a “peaceful and extrajudicial” solution.

The origin of all this conflict is the refusal by the ecclesiastical authorities to allow the nuns to sell a convent that they own and which is empty, an operation with which they intend to face the purchase of another monastery.
