The State Audit Office has given recommendations on how to correct the situation, but information about illegalities has been handed over to the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Procurement Supervision Office.
Korchagins noted that the State Chancellery initially contested the draft audit report of the State Audit Office on flight evaluation.
In total, the State Audit Office has assessed 53 business trips of Kariņš, of which 21 were carried out by regular flights, and in 32 cases special flights were used.
Today, the State Audit Office will inform about the results of the audit of the special flights of Kariņš’s business trips. The audit was performed on special flights that took place from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023.
LETA has already reported that the special flights made by the delegations led by Kariņš during the Prime Minister’s time have been criticized by some of the public. From September 2021 to September 2023, according to the information collected by the State Chancellery, 613,830 euros were spent in this way from the state budget, but together with the part of the costs covered by the EU, the spending reaches 1.36 million euros.
In order to obtain true information about the actual financial situation and the 2023 budget management process, the State Audit Office conducted an audit and made a decision, but did not disclose it publicly because the State Chancellery disputed the interim report.
In the meantime, the General Prosecutor’s Office has started and handed over to the Bureau of Prevention and Combating Corruption for investigation a criminal process regarding possible waste related to the use of charter flights for the business trips of former Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV).
Kariņš has announced that he is resigning from his current position as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
