Is playing guitar in a rock band a job like any other? It was through a small announcement published on social networks that the Smashing Pumpkins started looking for their new guitarist.
The American alternative rock group launched a competition on Friday 5 January “open to anyone who may be interested”. “Send your CV and any relevant content to [email protected]”specifies the group behind the results 1979 et Tonight tonight.
The announcement follows the October departure of Jeff Schroeder, the group’s guitarist since 2007.
On tour with Weezer and Green Day
Initially formed in the late ’80s in Chicago, Smashing Pumpkins enjoyed their heyday in the ’90s with singer Billy Corgan at the helm. Their metal-sounding music mixed with more pop elements made them an icon of a generation until their dissolution in 2000.
Billy Corgan relaunched the group in 2006. The group will now have to define its own style with a fourth member ahead of a tour of Europe with the group Weezer. Their first concert will take place on June 7th in Birmingham, England. They will join Green Day’s North American stadium tour at the end of July.
