In the men’s Nations Cup competition, 18 tickets were distributed for the World Cup stage. The first starting number belonged to Gintas Bērzińs, who set the bar for other athletes with a result of 53.137 seconds. Bērziņš remained the leader of the competition until the ninth athlete, when Ukrainian Andrejs Manzijs ran down the track, beating the result of the Latvian sled.
Kaspars Rinks arrived at the starting handle with the starting number 24. Although the author of the best start, Bērziņas Rinks, was initially behind, halfway through the measurement of the average track time, Rinks was already ahead of his relatively shorter colleague expert on the world luge scene. At the end of the track Rink piloted his sled with a time of 53.011 seconds, just one thousandth ahead of Manzia.
