A positive development is the recent election of Greece as a non-permanent member of the Security Council (SC) of the United Nations (UN). The UN Security Council is the all-powerful executive body of the UN tasked with maintaining international peace and security. It takes whatever measures – sanctions or intervention – it deems necessary to deal with situations which it itself assesses with political judgment as constituting a danger or threat to international peace and security.
