SEMARANG – After attending Eid al-Adha prayers with the community at Simpang Lima Field in Semarang, Indonesian President Joko Widodo checked the flood and tidal management project for the northern coastal area in the Tambachlorok area, North Semarang District, Semarang City, Monday (17/6/2024).

During his visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana, Central Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi, and Commander of Military Region IV/Diponegoro Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi.

The sea embankment or sheet pile project location is located in the Tambachlorok Fisherman’s Village area. The project, in the form of a tidal retaining wall, which was built 3.6 kilometers long with a budget of IDR 386 billion, is expected to be able to handle and prevent the overflow of sea water into coastal areas.

“The Fisherman’s Village area in Tambachlorok has a tidal embankment length of 3.6 kilometers. “To control tidal waves in Tambalorok and also to organize fishing villages,” said President Jokowi during his review.

Jokowi hopes that this infrastructure can last for a long period of time. He also said that this project could be a model for other regions in handling or controlling tidal floods.

“I think within 30 years, at least it can prevent the robberies from occurring. It will be completed in August 2024. If it is good, the arrangement of fishing villages is good, then it can be replicated, it can be copied (exemplified) by other areas. “At least, there is an example first,” he explained.

Meanwhile PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that this project was built in an area with a land area of 56 hectares. Apart from building embankments, there is also a pump house to maximize flood control in coastal areas.

“In fact, we first built a 3.6 kilometer embankment dam, it has covered everything. We will build an embankment from the port all the way to here for 3.6 kilometers. We are closed, there are no robberies in Tambalorok. But if it rains, where does the water go, there is a storage pond. There are two, 8 hectares and 12 hectares. We accommodate it, there is a pump. The pump house is not finished yet, capacity is 3×500 liters per second. “Each two operations, one reserve,” he said.

Currently, progress has reached 85 percent. There are indeed obstacles, namely the matter of land acquisition, but currently the Semarang city government is continuing to work on this.

“There is collaboration, everything will be completed in August,” said Minister Basuki.
