The Saudi prince is again in talks with his visit to the United States –

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is again in discussion with his visit to the United States. After the worldwide outrage over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, he became a lot of ‘one house’. But seven years after that incident, MBS is returning to the world stage by going to the White House for the first time. His meeting with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Nov 18) proved that the mutual interests of the two countries are still strong despite controversy and criticism.

After Khashoggi’s assassination in 2018, the Saudi crown prince was called ‘reclusive’, but in recent times he has been portraying himself as an ambassador of peace. He has come up with talks on mending relations with Iran, trying to end the war in Gaza and bringing Syria back into the Arab League. Once described as an ‘apathetic and reckless’ leader for the Yemen war, MBS is now one of the most talked-about figures in international diplomacy.

Power, diplomacy and the crown await

A US intelligence report on Khashoggi’s assassination hinted at MBS’s involvement, but he denied it. However, he accepted the responsibility as the Saudi ruler.

Then-presidential candidate Joe Biden said Saudi Arabia should be made an ‘abandoned’ state. But the US eventually returned to the reality of energy, investment, defense and technological interests.

Trump’s return to power in 2025 has warmed that relationship. This is evident in the $600 billion investment pledge, defense contracts and euphoric praise from Saudi Arabia.

According to Washington-based analyst Steve Clemons, the prince’s visit is a ‘pre-coronation moment’, i.e. the moment before his inauguration as the future king.
