As has been announced since last Monday, the RMDM has made its political comeback. The opportunity for the movement to redefine its position in relation to the situation prevailing in the country and the major events of this year.
Faithful to its principles, the Protest against democracy in Madagascar (RMDM) remains uncompromising. The movement, led by former president Marc Ravalomanana, held its first meeting of the year yesterday in Bel’Air, marking its political return. The opportunity for Pastor Édouard Tsarahame to define and redefine the position of the RMDM. With the municipal and legislative elections fast approaching, the movement has imposed its conditions. “ As things currently stand, we will not participate in the next elections », indicated Pastor Édouard Tsarahame before indicating that “ if these are still elections organized by the HCC (High Constitutional Court and the CENI (Independent National Electoral Commission), the RMDM will not take part in them “. Clean, transparent and universally accepted elections, according to the pastor’s explanations, remain among the demands of the RMDM.
New government
« Their difficulty in forming a government shows that those in power have not prepared to lead the country », noted Edouard Tsarahame. Indeed, more than a month after his re-election Andry Rajoelina is closely examining the hundred CVs received by the office of Ambohitsorohitra and Mahazoarivo in order to find the right person to put in the right place. The new government has had a somewhat difficult birth. Although the tenant of Iavoloha has shown his desire to open up to other political forces, his demands make the operation a little difficult. The composition of this new government team will also be closely scrutinized by observers. In any case, RMDM officials indicated yesterday that “ they are not going to beg for a position and that they will not participate in this new government ».
Success
The RMDM remains in opposition and maintains all the demands made by the Candidates’ Collective since the beginning of October of the past year. Pastor Edouard Tsarahame even boasted of the success of “Tolona”. “ With the non-participation of the 11 candidates in the last presidential elections, the objective was achieved. We will never accept forced elections riddled with fraud and marked by repetitive violations of the laws », boasted the head of the RMDM who intends to resume all political activities after this start of the school year. In his speech, the Pastor showed great restraint. If his speech became more aggressive, especially during the meeting which took place in Andohanimandroseza, on November 30, yesterday, he highlighted the peaceful nature of the movements of the Candidates’ Collective. “ Even if some people hoped that the movement would turn into chaos and thus result in injuries, it always remained peaceful. And, it’s a success. The movement achieved its goal », he said while inviting leaders not to use the police as forces of oppression.
