According to the agency, the Covid vaccination certificate that appeared in the former president’s document was fake
Former President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) vaccination card was fraudulent, according to the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union). The body released the opinion in a note this Thursday (18 January 2024), but did not name those responsible for the case. Here is the complete press release (PDF – 778 kB).
In a technical note the CGU recommends closing the investigation for “absence of minimal elements regarding the authorship of the facts”. The body specified that there is the possibility of reopening the procedure, since the PF (Federal Police) is operating in parallel, “whose sharing has already been requested”. . . . The investigation interviewed several employees of the UBS (Basic Health Unit) Parque Peruche, in Sao Paulo, where Bolsonaro would have been vaccinated. The auditors heard from the nurse listed as administering the vaccine – who denied carrying out the procedure and said she had not worked on the department on the date indicated.
Other people who worked on site and were interviewed by auditors also denied seeing Bolsonaro at UBS. The claims, according to the CGU, were confirmed by the analysis of the physical books kept by the health unit with vaccination records, which showed that the former president was not present at the site to be vaccinated.
Furthermore, the CGU verified, through information from the FAB (Brazilian Air Force), that Bolsonaro was not in Sao Paulo on the day of the alleged vaccination, July 19, 2021. According to the organization, he went to SP in Brasilia on the day before and not having made any other flights until at least the 22nd of the same month.
The investigation investigated the possible participation of a federal public employee in the events a “possible liability”, but nothing was found. One of the obstacles mentioned by the CGU to the investigation is the fact that, at the time of the false registration, UBS employees shared the same login and password to access the VaciVida system, which makes it difficult to identify the culprit.
“In short, anyone, equipped with a login and password, could access the system website via the web and therefore make registrations”, we read in the technical note. The results of the investigations will be transmitted to the authorities of the State and the Municipality of São Paulo.
UNDERSTAND THE CASE
The former CEO became the subject of an investigation on May 3, 2023, in an investigation investigating the insertion of false data on approved Covid vaccination cards into the Ministry of Health’s systems.
The investigation is looking into whether the former president tampered with his and his 12-year-old daughter Laura’s vaccination cards before they left for the United States in late December 2022. The United States required proof of Covid immunization for the entered the country, but Bolsonaro says he has never been vaccinated.
In a note (full – 174 KB) from the PF, the company informs that the changes to the cards were carried out from November 2021 to December 2022 and entailed the “alteration of the truth on a legally relevant fact, i.e. the status of the beneficiaries as immunized against Covid-19”.
At the time, Bolsonaro denied tampering with the document and said he had never been asked for proof of vaccination “don’t go anywhere”.
