The reconstruction of the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan highway was criticized by the president

Speaking to young scientists, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of the road network, Liter.kz reports with reference to Akorda.

At the meeting of the National Kurultai in Atyrau, the head of state gave instructions to begin large-scale construction and repair of roads.

“The work will cover at least 12 thousand kilometers of roads. The road network is the circulatory system of the economic and social life of a country. It is important to connect all our key cities and regions with high-quality transport arteries. I emphasize – high-quality roads. Frankly speaking, the situation with the quality of roads is extremely difficult and has long become the talk of the town. People rightly complain about the poor quality of road surfaces. The reasons for this state of affairs are different, but the main one is corruption. The Government and the Anti-Corruption Agency have already been instructed to eliminate corruption offenses in road construction. All funds allocated by the state should go specifically to construction, and not be distributed to other “addresses”. This is now a priority task. Take, for example, the reconstruction of the Kyzylorda – Zhezkazgan highway, which should give impetus to the development of a number of regions, including the new Ulytau region. The work is organized very poorly, people have been waiting for decades for a normal road,” Tokayev emphasized.

According to him, objective monitoring of the condition of roads throughout the country is needed. New approaches are required that will allow us to see the real picture.

“When constructing and reconstructing roads, it is necessary to make maximum use of the potential of responsible domestic and foreign companies that have all the necessary competencies and an impeccable reputation in the market, and not to attract front companies engaged in outright dumping. Quality roads should be a national goal. Without them, quality roads, there can be no talk of any progress in our country,” the president added.
