The Public Prosecution filed a criminal case against “sixteen people responsible for the 2023 Derna flood incident,” including the head of the city’s reconstruction fund and a member of the financial committee charged with implementing its reconstruction plan.

He explained that the mayor of Derna and a number of officials from the water resources and dams authority in the city did not bring evidence of their lack of responsibility for the disaster, stressing that all those responsible for the dams since 2003 are held responsible for the disaster, and that two officials were not subject to trial and left the country after being summoned for investigation and were placed in detention. A surveillance system will also be prepared, and a “red notice” will be prepared, which will be submitted to Interpol this week.
