Alberto Otarola, the president of Peru’s Council of Ministers, resigned after the General Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation against him on suspicion of patronage. TASS agency informs about it.
“Today, during the conversation with the president of the republic, I informed him about my decision to resign from the position of the chairman of the Council of Ministers,” Otarola said at the press conference.
According to him, he made this decision so that the head of state Dina Boluarte could carry out redistributions in the government. Otarola also reiterated his innocence.
“There were no violations during hiring, no agreements or patronage,” he said.
On March 4, Peru’s Attorney General’s Office said it was investigating possible irregularities in the hiring of Otarola’s acquaintance Yasire Vasquez at the Ministry of Defense. The prime minister, who asked to resign, is suspected of “illegal patronage”.
