The price of green mangosteen reached 800,000 VND/kg

This year, each kilogram of pre-peeled green mangosteen increased by 20-30% compared to last year, to 700,000-800,000 VND per kilogram.

Hot for 2 years in a row, this year’s green mangosteen chicken salad continues to take the market by storm. This price is 5 times higher than the main ingredient, chicken.

Despite the high price, small businesses receive hundreds of orders every day and still cannot deliver enough to others on the same day due to lack of supply.

Although green mangosteen has a high price, many gardeners do not sell it as aggressively as last year because the consumption of green mangosteen only accounts for a few percent of the ripe variety.

Partly because if you pick green mangosteen, there is a possibility that there will be less fruit in the following crop, affecting productivity. On the other hand, if everyone follows the trend of selling green fruits, supply will exceed demand, leading to prices going down. Many consumers think that 800,000 VND is too expensive compared to the value that green mangosteen brings.

Currently, each kilogram of unpeeled raw mangosteen costs 120,000-130,000 VND per kilogram, while cooked products cost 70,000-85,000 VND (depending on the type).

Accordingly, green mangosteen sold on the market today is mostly pruned fruit that does not meet standards on each tree or type 3 fruit. Every year, during the bamboo shoot season, gardeners will prune 1-5 kg of substandard fruit. Save nutrients for standard fruits. If you want to buy in large quantities, traders have to collect each garden.

According to Binh Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, mangosteen prices at the beginning of this year’s crop are higher than previous years because of increased demand. According to data from the Department of Crop Production, Vietnam has more than 10,000 hectares of mangosteen with a market supply of nearly 50,000 tons. Mangosteen is being exported officially to the US, China, Australia…

The Department of Agriculture of the provinces said that in the past 2 years, the quality of mangosteen has increased, “the harvest is good, the price is good”, so each hectare brings an income of 300-500 million VND, the profit is second only to durian.
