Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu said that the maximum price of dates will be determined at the retail and wholesale levels on Sunday.
He said, ‘The price of Zaidi dates in sacks will be determined tomorrow. Hopefully the price will come down after that. From this week, the maximum retail and wholesale prices will be fixed, which will bring down the prices.
He said these things after a program organized by ‘Association of Grassroot Women Entrepreneurs Bangladesh’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Saturday (March 2).
The state minister said, ‘We will solve the problems of traders, but we will not listen to any excuses. There is no late discount on any daily necessities during Ramadan except for a valid reason. Our target is not only Ramadan, but even after the month of Ramadan, the daily market will remain normal. Prime Minister’s directives that common people will not be held hostage by any businessman or group. One crore people will get TCB’s oil-sugar and some daily commodities at subsidized prices.

He said, ‘Our target is that consumers do not have to buy products at high prices during Ramadan. I have sent a letter to reduce the VAT-tax on oil which will be effective during Ramadan. There are about 10 types of dates. I have given traders a month to reduce the price.
Ahsanul Islam Titu said that the monitoring of edible oil has started from Friday, “The teams are monitoring all millgates since this morning. They have already been lettered about how much goods they have imported after the tariff reduction and how much time they have used to build bufferstocks. I think bottled soybean oil will be sold at Rs 163 per liter at the retail level from tomorrow. Open soybean oil will be sold at Tk 149 per liter.
