From January, the Czech Post will suspend the sale of newspapers and magazines in its branches. It has not agreed with the distributors on the new conditions, said postal spokesman Matyáš Vitík.
The spokesperson recalled that Swiss Post wanted to agree with distributors on a change in distribution and sales method due to the increasing costs of selling printing in its branches.
But they couldn’t reach an agreement, so the post office terminated contracts under which distributors delivered newspapers and magazines to branches.
“From January 2024, publishers of the Czech Post will no longer offer newspapers and magazines to customers in post offices. However, negotiations are currently underway on new ways of cooperation. If an agreement is reached at the end of the first quarter of 2024, ” Vítík said.
Those who purchased newspapers and magazines at post offices can order subscriptions for home delivery from publishers, he added.
According to initial information from the ČTK, the declarations concern PNS and Mediaprint & Kapa. Vice-Chairman of the PNS Board of Directors Ondřej Vaňha previously said that thanks to PNS’s dense sales network, print readers in most locations have an alternative print shop within walking distance.
