The plane was supposed to land in Madeira. The cameras captured the dramatic moment

Madeira Airport in Portugal poses a challenge for pilots and is considered one of the most dangerous in the world. The runway is short, although it was lengthened a few years ago, but it is also positioned on pillars over the water. On one side there are mountains and on the other the ocean. Landing in such conditions is not easy and much depends on the speed and direction of the wind. Interestingly, not all pilots have the authority to land on this island.

The plane was unable to land in Madeira

Last weekend a pilot from the Scandinavian airline SAS became aware of the challenges posed by Madeira Airport. An Airbus A320 plane with 90 passengers on board took off from Stockholm, Sweden, to Funchal on Saturday. While landing on a Portuguese island, the plane nearly hit the runway after winds caused engine failure.

The object bounced off the ground (so-called touch and go procedure) and sparks and flames appeared in the left engine. The pilot was ordered to wait 20 minutes before landing again. However, when he noticed that one of the engines was emitting fumes, he decided to go to Las Palmas airport in the Canary Islands to carry out a safety check and maintenance on the engine.

According to the Aviation Herald, all passengers left the plane without injuries. However, there is no information on when and how the travelers subsequently reached their destination.
