“Hraparak” newspaper writes: “The information about the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh was confirmed yesterday both by official Moscow and Baku. Meanwhile, we learned from the Artsakh circles connected with the peacekeeping troops that the peacekeepers are not completely leaving Artsakh.
According to official data, about 2,000 peacekeepers are on mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. After the depopulation of Artsakh, both sides agreed that there is no longer a need for peacekeepers, especially since a lot of money is spent for their activities, so 500 peacekeepers will remain in Nagorno-Karabakh from now on.
As for why not everyone leaves, according to our source, in this way both Russia will maintain its influence in that area, and Azerbaijan will have the opportunity to maneuver before the international community that it does not consider the issue of the return of the so-called “Armenian refugees” closed. It also remains faithful to the agreement of November 9, according to which the term of Russian peacekeepers ends in 2025.”
