The pastures improved in Kars were added to the economy. 500 acres of idle pastures in the Kars countryside were opened for grazing of cattle and sheep.
Within the scope of the “Pasture Improvement and Management Project”, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry carried out a study to bring the idle land in Ani Village into the economy. First, 500 decares of land were cleared of the alien and invasive weed, and vetch seeds were planted in the pasture.
The ceremony held in the Ani village plateau began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. The opening speech of the ceremony was made by the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Enver Aydın.
Kars Deputy Adem Çalkın, who took the floor after Aydın and stated that Kars has very large pastures and that its animals are fed organically, said, “Our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry is doing great things. When the time comes, you see our animals in epidemic diseases, in animal reproduction, in the close monitoring of animals, in our farmers, there is rain, hail, harvest time and other times. So what we understand is that they say the office is the farmer’s friend in bad times, but I say the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry is the farmer’s friend in bad times. May Allah be pleased with you, your efforts are great, I thank you all.”
Governor Ziya Polat, who stated that we have to produce for this nation, for this state and that we will become stronger as we produce, said, “As we become stronger, our nation, which is the leader of the oppressed, will bring justice to this world. Therefore, all together, you in the field, our NGOs, our mukhtars, we will arm in arm with our nation in the field in all institutions and organizations of the state and produce, produce, produce. We also need to sell what we produce at a good price, and in order to sell it at a good price, we need to grow good products. We need to turn raw material into material. We need to see the product we get in the field, the carcass meat of our animals on the shelves. I visited one of our factories the other day. Thank God, carcass meat, Kars sausage, Kars roast started to take its place on the shelves and there are many factories that are making investments and that we will open soon. We also expect this from our farmer brothers; our kavılca and wheat are famous. However, a fellow countryman from Esenkent in the village just now complained to me about the combine harvester. He said that the combine harvesters are very expensive and we buy straw. There is one more thing we need to do here. We should support our people who feed animals to increase our production of vetch, clover, sainfoin and silage corn instead of straw. We need to feed these to our animals instead of straw, we need to both reduce costs and increase both the meat and milk yield of the animals. Straw will be fed out of necessity. But unfortunately, we probably give it to the combine harvester in exchange for straw. The combine harvester mows, we give our grass and wheat and get straw. We will hopefully increase the production of vetch, sainfoin and silage corn even more in the coming years with the contribution of our state,” he said.
After the speeches, the animals were released to the pasture. In Kars, “The pasture improvement and management projects costing 5,790,910.45 TL, which are actively carried out in an area of 2,400 decares in 2024, make farmers happy.
Within the scope of the pasture improvement and management project costing 2,959,800.00 TL in Ani village, three different improvement methods were applied in the improvement of the pasture, the majority of which was destroyed by being covered with the invasive weed, the vetch. – KARS
