The opening of the Ecuador Embassy in Rabat

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bouraita, and the Minister of Foreign Relations and Human Transport Ecuadorian, Gabriela Summerd, today, Friday, the opening of the Ecuador Embassy in Rabat.

In a speech by the way, Bouraita stressed that the opening of this embassy comes in the wake of the historical decision of the Republic of Ecuador to cut all relations with the alleged “Sahrawi Republic” on October 22, 2024, and to enhance its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco.

The minister stated that 165 diplomatic missions are present in Morocco, including 50 representatives of international organizations, highlighting that Morocco, by embracing 14 embassies from Latin America in Rabat, is qualified to serve as a “link” between Latin America and Africa, thus constitutes a strategic bridge between the two continents thanks to many qualifications, especially cultural and geographical.

He pointed out that this augmented diplomatic presence embodies the strategic importance that Morocco attaches to its relations with Latin America, especially within the framework of its foreign policy.

The minister stressed that the new partnership “Rabeh-Rabeh” between Morocco and Ecuador aims to provide a model for South-South cooperation and effective, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, explaining that the two countries are looking forward to a strong South-South partnership and a dynamic to serve the interests of their people.

On this occasion, Bouraita congratulated the Ecuador government on the appointment of its ambassador at the head of this diplomatic mission.

For its part, Summerfeld confirmed that this embassy launches a new era of dynamism in cooperation between Morocco and Ecuador, recording the commitment of the two countries to enhance their ties, deepen bilateral relations in strategic sectors, and exchange their experiences in many areas of cooperation.

Somerfield stressed that the matter is related to the first diplomatic representation of Ecuador in the Maghreb region.

She considered that the opening of the Ecuador Embassy in Rabat should be a “bridge towards African markets”, which reflects the desire of its country’s government to deepen cooperation with Morocco.

It is noteworthy that this opening took place after a meeting between Bouraita and Sumarfeld, during which she renewed the head of Ecuadorian diplomacy to confirm her country’s support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco in 2007, which she considers the basis for a final settlement of this regional conflict.
