The Ombudsman participated in the session of the international organization in Geneva – 2024-08-13 16:44:28

The delegation led by Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the thematic session on “Business and human rights: the role and practices of national human rights institutions” within the framework of the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) held in Geneva.

From the Press service of the Office of the Ombudsman Publika.azS. Aliyeva informed the event participants about her activities in the field of business and human rights during her speech at the session and pointed out that there is cooperation in this field with international organizations, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). At the same time, it was noted that the national assessment document in the relevant field was prepared and submitted to UNDP this year, and a number of meetings were held in this direction.

The commissioner also spoke about the implementation of the “Guiding Principles in the field of business and human rights” adopted by the UN into the national legislation in our country.

S. Aliyeva also said that extensive consultations and discussions were carried out in order to study perspectives and positive experiences related to the relevant field in Azerbaijan, and initiatives in the direction of promotion and protection of human rights in this field were continued.

Within the session, current trends and challenges related to human rights in business activities were discussed, opinions were exchanged on the positive experiences of national human rights institutions in this direction.

During the visit, S. Aliyeva met with Livio Sarandrea, the global head of business and human rights of the United Nations Development Program. At the meeting, discussions were held regarding the national evaluation document in the field of business and human rights.
