The nightmare of… an empty pocket at the end of the month

At its nadir, it seems that the purchasing power of Greek households has fallen and the majority of those paid the minimum wage are either unable or struggling to make ends meet, despite the increase announced a few days ago. This is a real increase of 39 euros per month for approximately 570,000 workers, as can be seen from the announcement by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that the minimum wage is now 830 euros. Nevertheless, according to the data collected by “TA NEA”, the cost of housing, food, fuel and other but necessary needs continues to “strangle” consumers, while the convergence with the rest of the European Union countries is recorded only at the level of prices, which, although in some cases at lower than average levels, remains high.
