The next challenge for Austin Mir and Marini

Austin: After a long break due to the calendar change, the Repsol Honda team is back in action as they head to the United States to tackle the third round and the iconic Circuit of the Americas. Since joining the MotoGP World Championship calendar in 2013, the Grand Prix of the Americas has been an event highlighted by the extreme diversity offered in the circuit’s layout. A series of high-speed straights and some of the toughest braking zones on the calendar, as well as rapid changes in direction in the opening sector, provide a test for both Austin riders and machine. As a manufacturer, Honda has won the premier class race at Texas on eight occasions, including an undefeated run from 2013 to 2018.
Joan Mir arrived in the United States with ever-increasing confidence thanks to two productive race weekends in Qatar and Portugal. The #36 made steady progress both weekends, especially in Sunday’s Grand Prix. The primary objective of the upcoming race will be to continue this trend and improving his qualifying performance will be key to avoiding early race incidents again. Mir has a best finish of fourth in Austin. Luca Marini had a breakout performance in the premier class at Texas 2023, with the young Italian securing his first MotoGP podium with second place. After a pair of complex races to start the 2024 season, the unique demands of Austin will be another opportunity for Luca Marini and Repsol Honda Team RC213V to assess itself.
“It’s always good to go to America, we only get a chance to meet the fans there once a year so it’s important to perform well. We go to a very different track for the third time in three races so we need to look and understand that How is Honda going there? COTA has one of the most unique layouts on the calendar and especially the first sector on the track is very specific since we were here last time so I’m curious to see how they change the track. But there will be an impact,” said Honda rider John Mir.
“Austin holds a special place in my heart and I have good memories of last year. We’re in a different situation this year but I’m still positive that we can make more progress in the US. It’s a great place to be in Texas. It’s a special circuit and you’ve seen what Honda has done there in the past, no matter what the track, our focus and intent remains the same as we keep building this project,” said Honda rider Luca Marini.
