The smallest representative of the BMW M division will finally have a wider range of exterior paints. In subsequent years we can also expect the all-wheel drive variant M xDrive.
The latest generation BMW M2 is one of my favorite cars ever. It has the right amount of playfulness, strength and speed, but can be practical, economical and comfortable for every day. The successor, which is based directly on the larger 3 and 4 series, unfortunately gained several hundred kilograms and lost the appeal of a compact coupe, becoming a slightly smaller M4.
If the predecessor praised by me, unlike its older brothers, was not able to offer individual painting and a wider palette of body paints (the Leipzig factory was not suitable for this), the current design will already satisfy those interested in more vibrant colors. Production of the current M2 has moved to Mexico, while the San Luis Potosà plant now allows painting in more shades.
According to unconfirmed rumors, the current offering of seven lacquers will be expanded by another seven shades. There will be, for example, the metallic Thundernight purple, as we know it from the Z4 roadster, Griogio Telesto, or the gray shade used by the competing Lamborghini, the Java Green metallic paint, the bright yellow-green shade Sao Paolo Yellow (often found on BMW M4), Fire Red, Voodoo Blue (we also know it from some Porsches) or Skyscraper Grey.
As part of a broader modernization, there is talk of implementing the optional M xDrive sports all-wheel drive with preference to the rear axle, which can completely disconnect the front wheels. Thanks to the modular CLAR platform, which the M2 shares with larger BMWs, installing a quad is simple. In addition to better traction, this could also lead to higher performance, as is the case with the BMW M4. With all-wheel drive the power is 375 kW, while with rear-wheel drive “only” 353 kW.
