The National Library of Paraguay will celebrate its 138 years of existence this Saturday, September 20, between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., with a “reading morning” and activities to promote culture.
In that context, the library extends the invitation to all citizens, so that they join the activities that commemorate a work oriented towards the promotion of reading, the encounter and conservation of national history.
On the occasion, they will have the opportunity to listen to poems and stories read by others, bring their own books and discover new literary works through a selection of cured books for the event.
Likewise, a shared reading space was organized with their parents and an outdoor storyteller, directed by Lourdes Armoa, for children.
Likewise, the members of the Adventurer League will show board games, describe their work and provide details about future game sessions in the library. And during the activity, all visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy hot chocolate and coffee. The National Library is located in De Resident 820 C/ Avda. Peru, Asunción and is under the supervision of the National Secretariat of Culture.
On September 21, 1887, through the promulgation of the relevant law, it was founded. Since then, it has become a cultural symbol of the country, guardian of historical memory and meeting place for people of all ages.
Its mission is to promote the enrichment and adequate preservation of the collections of documentary and bibliographic cultural heritage, guarantee the easy access to them, and promote their participation in the modernization and development of the institution.
In addition, it seeks to provide the necessary services and spaces for the intellectual and educational development of citizens, favoring the correct exercise of their rights within the democratic framework.
