NEW DELHI – The appearance of a mysterious animal during the inauguration ceremony Prime Minister of India , Narendra Modi along with 72 third term Cabinet ministers went viral on social media.

Netizens also made assumptions about the animal species that ‘appeared’ suddenly at last weekend’s event.

“The sight of the animal caught the eye when Member of Parliament, Durga Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed President Droupadi Murmu after she was sworn in,” explained media reports.

Some social media users believed it was a leopard based on the shape of its tail and others claimed it was a cat.

Based on the size of the mysterious animal, it looks more like a leopard.

But the New Delhi Police solved the mystery by confirming that it was an ordinary house cat.

“Don’t believe such trivial rumors,” said his spokesman.

The Forest Department also confirmed this by stating that it had not received reports of wild leopards at the President’s official residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

As is known, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Hindu nationalist party led by landslides in 2014 and 2019, failed to get a majority of votes to rule alone in the last national election.

However, Modi’s National Democratic Alliance coalition won enough seats to form a government, with Modi as its leader.

This is the first time that Modi’s BJP has needed support from its regional allies to form a government after a decade of commanding a majority in parliament.

The final election results released last Wednesday (5/6) showed Modi’s BJP winning 240 seats, far below the 272 seats needed to control a parliamentary majority. Together, the parties in the NDA coalition managed to secure 293 seats in the 543-member lower house of parliament.
