The most expensive English player in history, Jack Grealish officially left Man City for Everton on loan, with a buyout clause for 50 million pounds.
This morning, Everton confirmed the successful recruitment of Jack Grealish from Man City on a loan agreement lasting until the end of the 2025/26 season, with a buyout clause worth 50 million pounds.
Grealish only started 16 times in all competitions last season and only seven times in the Premier League. The winger was also removed from the Man City squad in the final match of the Premier League season, against Fulham, and was not allowed to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup in the US. Coach Pep Guardiola described this as a purely professional decision, having nothing to do with Grealish’s personal problems off the field.
Grealish grew up at the Aston Villa academy and became the club’s captain since 2019, when they won tickets to return to the Premier League. In 2021, he moved to Man City for a record price of 100 million pounds (118 million euros). Up to this point, Grealish is still the most expensive English player in history.
At Etihad, Grealish struggled at first but gradually shined and became coach Pep Guardiola’s favorite star. He contributed greatly to helping Man City win a historic treble in the 2022/23 season. However, this was also the time when Grealish began to lose form. The English midfielder often appeared drunk after celebrations throughout the summer of 2023. As a result, he was removed from the starting list by Pep Guardiola.
Grealish was criticized for his indulgent lifestyle
Guardiola once expressed his desire to see Grealish return to his form in the 2022/23 season. “Do I want the Jack of the treble season back? Yes, I want that, but I try to be honest with myself,” the Spaniard said in January.
Coming to Everton, Grealish immediately “cut down his hair” and became neater. Fans believe that Grealish shows his determination to regain top form through this move.
