On May 9, according to information from the Ministry of Health, the Drug Administration of Vietnam received a notice from AstraZeneca regarding the request to terminate approval of the use of AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 for urgent needs in Vietnam. because the epidemic is no longer in an urgent stage.
Accordingly, just like the licensing process for this vaccine, the process of requesting termination of approval for use also carries out the same steps. The Drug Administration of Vietnam must submit it to the Council for consideration and comments, after which the management agency will make a decision on terminating use.
According to statistics from the Drug Administration, Vietnam currently no longer has AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine. After AstraZeneca’s announcement about this, in the future, if this vaccine is used again, the health sector will have to redo the import processes, allowing the vaccine to be used in accordance with regulations.

AstraZeneca vaccine is the first COVID-19 vaccine approved for conditional import into Vietnam from February 2021. This is a vaccine researched and developed by AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Company in collaboration with Oxford University (UK).
At the time of licensing in Vietnam, AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine was licensed for emergency use in 181 countries and territories. At the same time, this is also a vaccine that is included in the emergency use list by the World Health Organization.
In Vietnam, during the COVID-19 epidemic, in addition to the 30 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine ordered from AstraZeneca, Vietnam also sporadically received the AstraZeneca vaccine through sponsorship programs.
AstraZeneca vaccine is one of the widely used COVID-19 vaccines in Vietnam. To date, Vietnam has safely deployed 74.3 million vaccinations nationwide for people aged 18 and older.
Most recently, in February 2023, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology allocated more than 800,000 doses of this vaccine with an expiration date of July 2023 to localities, to deploy booster vaccinations for people aged 18 and older. age or older.
