The ministry is struggling with the movement of district stadiums – 2024-04-11 15:05:04

What is the status of the country’s district stadiums? The Ministry of Youth and Sports has started a struggle with this. Under the direction of the new Sports Minister Nazmul Hasan Papon, the Ministry of Youth and Sports formed 14 teams to visit the district stadiums.

Each committee consisted of 4 members headed by an officer of the minimum rank of Deputy Secretary. These teams started working from April 3. All district stadiums of the country were to be visited and their report submitted to the ministry on the last working day before the Eid holiday.

There are sports facilities, but no sports. Sometimes the stadiums are played, and sometimes the stadiums are locked for years. Such complaints have been going on for ages. Any sports facility is again unusable due to lack of renovation.

Why is the ministry interested in building a new stadium without making the existing structures suitable for use? There is also that question. Taking these complaints into consideration, the new sports minister has decided to visit all the district stadiums and take practical measures.

Jatiya Krira Parishad Assistant Director (Planning and Development) Sukumar Saha told Jago News, ‘The Minister has asked to see the latest status of the stadiums in each district. 14 teams were divided into districts from ministries. The teams have visited various district stadiums since April 3. After all the reports are submitted, the ministry will prepare the main report by combining them. That will be given to the minister.’

These committees will look at the issues of the stadium? The director of the National Sports Council replied, ‘The main objective is to see what condition the stadium is in. When was the stadium built? When was the last renovation done? Some stadiums play more games, some stadiums don’t. If not, why not? In other words, the committees have seen the A to Z issues of the stadium. The committee has also captured the picture of what is the major problem of any stadium. After analyzing these reports, the minister will decide what to do next.’

Note that there is no district stadium in Dhaka. Remaining 63 districts have stadiums. Divisional cities have divisional stadiums in addition to district stadiums. There are also two stadiums built by the National Sports Council in some districts. Many stadiums are named after famous people. However, these stadiums are known as district stadiums.
