The MFA has condemned Mitzkoski’s words that it will not enter the Bulgarians in the Macedonian Constitution –

Macedonian Prime Minister Christian Mickski told Parliament in Skopje that he sees no reason for the registration of Bulgarians in the Constitution of Northern Macedonia, which is the main requirement for his country to launch real negotiations for EU membership.

Mitzkoski asked, quoted by BGNES, why there was no same requirement before Albania, given that in the country 8,000 people declared their Bulgarian self-awareness, and in the RSM they live “about 700-800 Bulgarians who declare that their mother tongue is Bulgarian”.

So far, Mickoski has insisted that constitutional changes have been delayed after the entry of Northern Macedonia into the EU.

This is not accepted by Brussels despite the Macedonian governing campaign.
Mickoski has been speculated for months that he can negotiate new terms and refuses to fulfill the requirements set out in the negotiation framework of his country.

Due to the refusal of the Mickski party to support the constitutional changes, Northern Macedonia was separated from Albania on the EU’s way.

On the evening on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) expressed its deep disappointment with Mickoski’s words and condemned them. These statements not only distort reality, but also undermine efforts to build a good neighborly relations and European integration, writes in the position of the agency spread to the media.

We would like to emphasize that the issue of the rights of Bulgarians in northern Macedonia is not a bilateral dispute between our two countries, but is a question that affects the basic European values and standards, the foreign ministry said.

Progress in the process of European integration of RSM is only possible through the full and complete implementation of the European consensus, agreed and adopted by the Council of the European Union (EU) in 2022, an important part of which is the amendments to the country’s constitution. Respect for minority rights and guaranteeing their equality are the fundamental principles of the European Union. In this context, Northern Macedonia, as a candidate for EU membership, is responsible for bringing its legislation and practice in accordance with these principles, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.

The agency draws attention to the fact that a huge number of nationals of northern Macedonia have acquired Bulgarian citizenship, recognizing their Bulgarian origin and identity.

“We urge the RCM authorities to refrain from rhetoric, which inspires division and hatred, and instead to focus on the fulfillment of EU membership criteria, including the protection of the rights of all ethnic communities in the country.
