Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of the ruling Palestinian government, Mohammad Shatayeh, has resigned. He submitted his resignation to President Mahmud Abbas on Monday. He confirmed this information by holding a press conference after submitting his resignation letter.

At that time, Mohammad Shatayeh said, I have submitted my resignation letter to the President (Mahmoud Abbas). I took this action to protest the Israeli occupation of Gaza and the escalation of violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem. His resignation led to the collapse of virtually the entire cabinet.

He said at the press conference that the situation in Gaza is not the same as before. A new reality has emerged and in that reality a new government is needed to maintain the integrity and unity of Palestine.

He said, the biggest challenge before us is to adapt to the changed situation and to put in power a government that can strengthen the unity of the whole of Palestine. This is the main reason for my resignation.

Thirty years ago, the Oslo Peace Accords created the Palestinian government structure, which included the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.
