The majority of Russian citizens are worried that World War III will start soon

MOSCOW – The majority of Russian citizens feel anxious that World War III will start soon. The data is based on a survey conducted by a field research group in Moscow.

According to a report published on Friday, 57 percent of survey respondents believe that global conflict will occur in the next 5-10 years, although 13 percent said they believe this will not happen.

Among those surveyed, people aged 30-59 years are highly educated and search for news online online are more likely to talk about the possibility of world war than those with lower education and income.

Quoting reports from Russia Today, Sunday (16/6/2024), around seven in ten of the 1,617 survey respondents named the United States (US) and Russia as the parties most likely to be involved in the hypothetical war, with Britain, France, Germany, Poland and the Baltic countries mentioned among Washington’s potential allies.

Only one in ten respondents named Ukraine as a potential enemy of Russia in a global conflict. Respondents named China, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, India and Kazakhstan as Russia’s main allies in the event of a global war.

More than 60 percent of respondents said they believed that Russia or a Russian-led coalition would win a world war, while only 6 percent said the US and the West would achieve victory, and 18 percent believed that neither side would win.

The survey was conducted on 1,617 Russian citizens aged over 18 from May 23 to June 2.

The survey also touched on support for Moscow’s military operations against Kyiv. Nearly three-quarters of respondents (73 percent) said they believe Russia is currently moving in the right direction regarding the conflict, and 79 percent said the operation is going well for the Russian army.

About half of respondents believe that this is the right time for peace negotiations and a diplomatic solution.

Warnings about the potential for global conflict have been voiced repeatedly over the past two years, since the start of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

Although Moscow has warned that increased Western involvement could trigger a global war, and some Western analysts say that a Russian victory would inevitably lead to this, some officials and analysts believe that a world war has already begun given the involvement of NATO and the European Union.
