It is noted that according to the sources of the Al Jadeed TV channel, who are representatives of the command of the Lebanese Armed Forces, the agreement on the resumption of patrols was reached “during tense consultations between the parties, which continued on the last day with the participation of mediators”. The patrol was suspended in October 2023 due to the exchange of fire between Israel and the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon.
On March 5, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that the country’s government is making efforts to bring peace to the southern border, where Israeli troops and Shiite Hezbollah militants are exchanging blows. According to him, in accordance with the initiative of the American mediator Amos Hockstein, Lebanon and Israel will conduct indirect negotiations on the ceasefire on the southern front during Ramadan, the holy month of Muslims.
As Mikati emphasized, in order to establish stability on the border, Israel must stop “hostile actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon”, as well as “liberate the border areas that remain under its control after the 2000 evacuation.”
