Power in the Gaza Strip should be exercised by the Palestinians with the support of the international community, taking into account Israel’s interests in the field of security. This was stated in the joint statement of the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, the USA and France.
The parties expressed their “full support” for the comprehensive deal proposed by US President Joe Biden, which should lead to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and an increase in humanitarian aid supplies.
The leaders of the four countries reiterated the importance of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian crisis through the creation of two states, which remains “the only viable solution to respond to the legitimate aspirations of the two peoples for peace and security.”
“They reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian Authority and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa’s reform agenda and called for greater assistance to his government at the regional and international levels, including in the context of revenue transfers from the Government of Israel. In this regard, they emphasized the need for the restoration of legal Palestinian governance in the Gaza Strip, with appropriate international support and taking into account Israel’s security interests,” the statement said.
The leaders emphasized that they intend to “contribute to international efforts to support stability in the Gaza Strip, to ensure long-term regional security for all and to prevent the recurrence of such a crisis.”
In addition, the leaders drew attention to “the importance of maintaining stability in Lebanon,” urging “all parties to refrain from further regional escalation.”
