The law on foreign agents will remove Georgia from the EU. Charles Michel – 2024-04-19 00:38:39

The head of the European Council Charles Michel stated that the Law on Foreign Agents adopted by the Parliament of Georgia on April 17 does not correspond to the country’s European aspirations.

“The Georgian people have chosen the European path, in response the European Council granted Georgia candidate status in December of last year. Let me be clear. the bill does not correspond to Georgia’s aspirations to join the EU and will not bring Georgia closer to the European Union, but will take it away from it,” Charles Michel’s post on the X social network stated.

Earlier, the EU’s high representative for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, stated that the Georgian bill “does not comply with EU norms and values” and called to “refrain from approving it.”

Moreover, the leaders of the European institutions do not explain how the Georgian bill fundamentally differs from the bill on supervision of foreign-funded organizations proposed by the European Commission at the end of last year.
